Black Box Sounds presents:
Cask Mouse, Rocket and the Ghost & Ryan Lee Crosby

Cask Mouse

Cask Mouse is a hot spring in the winter tundra; they are oil and water, the northern lights and a southern desert wind. A true contradiction. A modern-classic. From ballad to basher, the music is the fuel of their rocket. Cask Mouse will take you as high as the moon, and leave you as devastated as the launch pad.

Rocket and the Ghost

New York-based indie rock outfit Rocket And The Ghost was formed by singer and multi-instrumentalist Kiyoshi Matsuyama in the fall of 2012. A Boston native and Brooklyn transplant, Matsuyama broke free from his longtime allegiance to blues-driven rock n’roll to focus instead on writing his own songs. Right out of the gate Rocket & The Ghost started creating what has been described as “a wildly dynamic mix of thunderous beats and razor sharp hooks” (Independent Music Awards). The band euphorically pays homage to the rich and riotous tradition of American rock with songs like "Better Than Before" and "Come In From The Outside" (you can hear echoes of their forefathers, like Bruce Springsteen, and their contemporaries, like Bon Iver, if you're into that whole comparison thing). But the real standout in the bands' potent arsenal is how remarkably they handle a ballad, as evidenced by heart-wrenchers like "Albuquerque" and "Gold"; the latter of the two won the 2014 Independent Music Award for Best Love Song. In addition, their debut Self-Titled EP, released in November 2013, garnered rave reviews from the likes of USA Today, NYLON Guys, The Deli Magazine, and TimeOut NY.

Ryan Lee Crosby (solo)

Ryan Lee Crosby is an American guitarist, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Boston, Massachusetts. A versatile, exploratory musician with a restless drive to create, Crosby has produced 5 albums, 3 EPs and a film score in his 10 years as an active artist. He has performed his music in the U.S. on stages from New England to Mississippi and in numerous countries throughout Europe. Whether playing solo on 12 string guitar, fronting a bluesy drum-guitar duo, or leading a full band, Crosby's intricate playing, propulsive rhythms and dynamic vocals create a sound that confronts listeners with an immediacy rarely found in the work of traditional singer/songwriters."

“Ryan Lee Crosby’s sound is an update on the ghostly, close-to-the-bone approach of Delta bluesman Skip James. But don’t be fooled — the legendary Burnside and Kimbrough clans are among his gurus, and he's learned well." - Nashville Scene

"Ryan Lee Crosby has turned his story, once sad and seemingly doomed, into a tale of redemption and freedom found through music. His voice, haunting and lithe, is at the forefront with threadbare honesty." - Boston Globe
