The ArtsEmerson Play Reading Book Club (PRBC) is a dynamic theatre literacy and community education program that provides unique and radical access to scripts, artists, and conversations within the theatre.

It offers participants pre and post show opportunities to deepen and expand their experience as audience members through stimulating conversations about the literary, artistic and technical attributes of a play while meeting new people and broadening their cultural network.

The program is facilitated by trained teaching artists from the Emerson College Masters in Theatre Education program. The structure of the PRBC allows participants to explore a play over 6 sessions during a 3, 4, 5 or 6 week period. Participation in the play reading book club will allow you to:

  • Gain in depth exposure to the text of a play through group readings, contextual resources and facilitated discussions, prior to attending a live performance.
  • Receive tools and resources to help navigate the process of attending the theater.
  • Increase social connectedness by repeated exposure to new people, conversations and productions within an organized community.
