Cuisine & Confessions
The 7 Fingers / Montreal
Come for the CIRCUS, stay for the banana bread!
A summer smash in Paris, Rome, Madrid, Istanbul, Montreal and Moscow, Cuisine & Confessions, the latest from the world-famous circus The 7 Fingers, celebrates its U.S. premiere with a strictly-limited engagement in Boston this summer.
This time you are invited into their kitchen for a multi-sensory marvel. As in their previous Boston appearances (Traces, Sequence 8, and PSY), Cuisine & Confessions showcases this innovative troupe’s trademark acrobatic and choreographic prowess – but this time, adds sound, smell, touch, and taste! The result is a literal theatrical feast! This completely original stir-fry of theatrical brilliance incorporates circus thrills with lots of laughs. These amazing circus performers also touch our emotions as they share vulnerable stories from their past, almost like a circus “A Chorus Line” – foods prepared, memories made — and the rituals that underpin the most important relationships in our lives.
In the words of world-renowned chef Jacques Pepin, “there is something evanescent, temporary, and fragile about food. You make it, it goes, and what remains are memories.” “Feed your eyes and mouth – and make sure you don’t try any of this at home,” cheers Time Out (Paris).
Since forming in Montreal in 2002 as an off-shoot of Cirque du Soleil, The 7 Fingers has toured over 300 cities in over 40 countries. A circus company built on a human scale, they have produced a dozen shows with over 4200 performances to date, including the musical Pippin on Broadway, and the long-running hits Traces and the off-Broadway cabaret, Queen of the Night. Creator Shana Carroll is also the creator of the acrobatics for Cirque du Soleil’s brand new Broadway production, Paramour. The New York Times proclaims them “the rebel circus” and says, “7 doigts’ combining circus acts with emotion and intimacy to win over the audience is a tenet of the new circus movement that started in the counter-cultural departure from the stunt for stunt’s sake philosophy of traditional three ring circuses.”

ARTISTS’ VISION
Les 7 doigts de la main translates literally as “the 7 fingers of the hand”. It is a twist on a French idiom (“the five fingers of the hand”) used to describe distinct parts united tightly, moving in coordination towards one common goal. Here it refers to the 7 founding directors of the company (Isabelle Chassé, Shana Carroll, Patrick Léonard, Faon Shane, Gypsy Snider, Sébastien Soldevila et Samuel Tétreault) who, by combining their distinct talents and experiences, work towards their common artistic goals with the beautifully awkward dexterity of a 7-fingered hand.
