69˚ S. (The Shackleton Project)

Phantom Limb

“Exquisitely rendered….beautifully constructed.”

— Los Angeles Times

Phantom Limb’s 69˚S. imagines the unimaginable. Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 trans-Antarctic expedition—the real life story of a group of gentlemen frozen (literally) in crisis—is reignited by a contemporary dilemma: the realities of a changing environment and the planet’s uncertain future.

Theatre, dance, puppetry, photography and film unite in an impressionistic, stunning and evocative series of tableaux vivants, taking us on an artistic and emotional journey that explores the symbiotic relationship between humans and the environment and reinvigorates the spirit of foregoing individual glory for the sake of collective survival.

Learn about Phantom Limb’s world premiere production, background on the 1914 expedition, the puppetry, music and much more here, brought to you by The Hopkins Center, Dartmouth College.
