A Brimful of Asha

WHY NOT THEATRE / CANADA

Opening Night: MAR 09, 2021 @ 7:30 PM Stream On Demand: MAR 10-22, 2021

A real-life mother and son in a true, heartwarming story of family, marriage, and the quest for the perfect bride.

With sold out runs across the world, A Brimful of Asha is a critically acclaimed hit and an instant favorite with audiences everywhere. Real-life mother and son, Asha and Ravi Jain, share the stage and tell this true (and very Canadian) story of generational and cultural clash. When Ravi takes a trip to India, his parents decide it’s the perfect time to introduce him to potential brides. Ravi isn’t sold on the idea of getting married—at least not yet—but Asha panics that time is running out. Full of laughs and heartache, this delightful family tale perfectly illustrates how, though both parents and children want the best future possible, they often can’t agree on the way forward. As Asha explains to her son, “You don’t get to choose your family, why should you choose your wife?”

TUE MAR 09:  LIVE POST-SHOW CONVERSATION
Following the 7:30pm premiere, Ravi and Asha Jain will join moderator David Howse in a live conversation and Q&A about the making of the show. This conversation will be ASL interpreted and will be recorded and available on demand along with the show through MON MAR 22. The recorded conversation will have captions.

Buzz

“Asha’s artlessness actually works to the production’s advantage.
She never seems to be reciting lines, merely
expressing her true self, and that self is
CONSISTENTLY ENDEARING.”

Boston Globe

“‘A Brimful of Asha’ Is A Barrelful Of Good Cheer.”

WBUR, The ARTery

“I’m not sure I’ve laughed so much during the pandemic as when I watched Brimful of Asha.”

Jared Bowen, WGBH Arts Editor

“Pioneering in its intimacy and yet unapologetically heartwarming, Ravi Jain’s play is a beguiling blend of old and new styles, which fits the material beautifully.”
