Artists

Oanh-Nhi Nguyen, Director

Oanh-Nhi Nguyen (she/her) is a film director, writer, producer, and activist who has spent the last 10 years working towards social justice, with a particular interest in gender and racial justice. She creates stories honoring Asian and Asian American women, specifically Vietnamese women and immigrants, and how intergenerational trauma impacts the trajectory of their lives. Her stories focus on their power to actualize their dreams and to build anew. Her comedy pilot, UNACCEPTABLE, was recently accepted into the 2022 Athena’s Writers Lab. Oanh-Nhi is a Directing Fellow at the highly selective AFI Conservatory.

Oanh-Nhi specializes in storytelling, digital organizing, and philanthropy. Her interest in ending violence against women and girls started in college, where she developed a documentary on sexual violence survivors and organized a youth-led violence prevention program. As a former digital organizer, Oanh-Nhi has mobilized thousands of Asian Americans online. She has also consulted and created funds to resource nonprofits, totaling $11 million for girls and women of color.

The Boston Asian American Film Festival (BAAFF) empowers Asian Americans through film by showcasing Asian American experiences and serving as a resource to filmmakers and the Greater Boston Community. BAAFF is a co-production of Asian American Resource Workshop and ArtsEmerson.

VietLead

Our mission is to develop leadership in the Vietnamese community in solidarity with other communities of color towards improving health, increasing self-determination, and strengthening political power of our community.

SEAFN

Southeast Asian Freedom Network (SEAFN) was formed in 2001 to create a united front against the deportation of Cambodian refugees. After two decades, SEAFN is a national movement family of grassroots organizations working to mobilize Southeast Asians towards abolition.
