March 21, 2011 | Theatre, Notes From Leadership,
Spring at ArtsEmerson
The first day of spring ushers in one of the most active months in our first season with the opening of two works from Peter Brook’s celebrated company from Paris, and Murray Abraham’s Shylock in Shakespeare’s MERCHANT OF VENICE. Peter Brook’s work hasn’t been seen in Boston since 1971, and the last time Murray Abraham performed in town was 20 years ago. This reflects one of our core missions: to bring to Boston work that is new to the community; work that would never be seen in town were it not for ArtsEmerson and the magnificent new theaters made possible by Emerson College. Spring always occasions a lift of spirits. These works will amplify that lift and I invite you to join us on the edge of beautiful Boston Common for these memorable productions.
What a wonderful season– so glad to be a founding member!
One negative— the sound system at the final performance of Merchant of Venice was terrible.
Our seats in the 10th row of the orchestra— we could hear very little– and, at intermission, we met
many others who were similarly upset. Perhaps you could email your subscriber base to acknowledge
this problem. We were so looking forward to this production! I have been an avid supporter,
and I am concerned that this experience could affect your renewal numbers. An acknowledgement would help.
Sincerely,
Roselyn Frank
