Now Streaming: Mala

Mala, a poignant drama written and performed by Melinda Lopez, made its world premiere as part ArtsEmerson’s 2016/17 Season. We are so happy to collaborate with WGBH and Huntington Theatre to bring this award-winning solo performance into your home as part of our Together Apart series.

This award-winning play aired on WGBH 2 and YouTube TV on Thursday, April 9th at 10 p.m. But now, Mala is available for streaming in full through April 10th on WGBH’s website.

Additionally, to celebrate the show’s television premiere, Melinda Lopez joins Artistic Director David Dower (and director of Mala) for a conversation about the show’s history with ArtsEmerson associate producer Kevin Becerra.

“One of the things that I think the show articulates,” Lopez explains, “is that there are times when we are called on to be everything to the people who love us the most. We have had little in the way of training or preparation to do these things. And so we make poor choices, we do things wrong, we try so hard and often fail. That felt really important to acknowledge.”
