Kristina Wong, #FoodBankInfluencer and the Fight Against Food Waste

Our season kickoff Kristina Wong, #FoodBankInfluencer is as hilarious as it is thought-provoking. Inspired by Kristina Wong’s commentary, we’re taking a moment to highlight organizations in the Boston area fighting food insecurity and the heaping amount of food waste our city generates.

Here are some Boston organizations you can support:

Spoonfuls

Address: 189 Wells Ave, Suite 100, Newton, MA 02459

Through partnerships with local grocery stores, wholesalers, and farms, Lovin’ Spoonfuls collects surplus fresh food and delivers it directly to community organizations across Greater Boston and beyond. Since its inception, the organization has rescued and distributed millions of pounds of food.

Boston Area Gleaners

Address: 91 Martin Street Acton, MA 01720

The Boston Area Gleaners rescues surplus produce from local farms to combat food waste. They collaborate with over 90 farms to harvest fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste, distributing them to food banks, pantries, and meal programs across eastern Massachusetts.

The Greater Boston Food Bank

Address: 70 South Bay Avenue Boston, MA 02118

The Greater Boston Food Bank is a key hunger-relief organization that partners with over 600 agencies to distribute food across the region. You can participate by volunteering to help sort and package food, donating money or food directly, or organizing fundraising events to support their mission.

By supporting these initiatives—whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word—we can help ensure good food nourishes people instead of ending up in landfills. If you’d like to learn more, come see Kristina Wong, #FoodBankInfluencer at the Emerson Paramount Center from September 19-21. Tickets for all performances are still available here.
