Join Us for Our Upcoming “The Point” Conversation!

On October 21 at 6:30 pm, ArtsEmerson will present The Point: Something Wicked This Way Comes, a free, in-person panel discussion dedicated to exploring how history, myth, and culture have long framed powerful women as unruly or monstrous. This conversation brings together artists, scholars, and critics to push back on the narratives that demonize female agency.

From Shakespeare’s witches to modern portrayals of the “fallen” or “difficult” woman, The Point asks: why are women in power historically considered a threat?

Panelists include Melinda Lopez, a Boston-based playwright and educator, and Ramie Targoff, a Renaissance scholar and author of Shakespeare’s Sisters—among other voices in scholarship and the arts. The event is hosted in partnership with GBH’s Forum Network, a platform that amplifies educational conversations by both archiving and sharing them (for free!) to viewers online.

This conversation is intended to echo beyond the walls of one room. In times like these, it is more important than ever to participate in active, challenging dialogue; especially when it resonates with so many. What is art truly for if not to spark conversation?

We each have a wealth of knowledge and experience that makes every individual perspective valuable. There is no need to prepare anything in particular for this discussion (unless, of course, you’d like to). Come as you are, and with The 4th Witch in mind! RSVP for free HERE.
