Inside the Music of Noli Timere
There is no doubt that audiences will be wowed by the visual feats of Noli Timere, from the massive custom net sculpture suspended 25 feet in the air at the Cutler Majestic theater to the 8 dancers moving over it, but there is another, quieter force guiding the experience of the show as well: the music.

The original score for Noli Timere is composted by Québec-based Jorane, who is a composer, cellist, singer, and sound artist with a career spanning over 20 years. She has released a dozen albums as a solo artist, earning her recognition from major industry awards like the Junos, Adisq, and GAMIQ. In addition to her solo work, Jorane has composed soundtracks for theater, film, television, and more, evenings winning a Jutra Award (the Quebec Oscars) for her music in the film Un dimanche à Kigali.
Jorane’s boundary-pushing work often combines her cello alongside haunting vocals and experimental soundscapes that blur the lines between classical, folk, rock, and ambient music. Her work for Noli Timere is no different, as this score truly acts as a structural element of the show, working to shape how audiences experience time, tension, and release. The score creates a sort of sonic environment, at times feeling mediative, while other moments feel intense and immersive, almost echoing the English translation of the show’s title, “be not afraid.”
Don’t miss your chance to see Jorane’s work in person, alongside the artistic excellence of sculptor Janet Echelman, who designed the net used in the show. Noli Timere is on stage at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theater for a limited run, January 29–February 1!
