I attended on opening night, Jan 29, and had to leave – decided I couldn’t get through the full hour. I never leave performances, but the sound was insanely loud and I found the music itself to be painfully screeching. It was impossible to focus on the dance but it seemed like there was good potential. I did find it jarring that the nets and lighting made it seem like it would be a lighter performance, but the music and dance seemed to be depressing. All the critics seem to love and I didn’t see anyone else walk out so maybe it was just me and my companion, but we abhorred it.

I have a tiny bit of gymnastics experience that gave me a sense of the remarkable physical strength required to move in/on/with the net.

The way the net moved, I could see that every change/contact/weight/shift affected the whole of it, which much make it incredibly difficult for the performers (they said as much in the Q&A) to move in/on, and relative to their fellow performers.

I’m mentally working it out as a new Olympic event. I was that impressed by the athleticism on display.

And I really really wanted to climb on it myself! 😂 I loved climbing anything when I was a kid (sometimes a little surprised I didn’t fall off something and crack my head open when I think about how non-user friendly some of the playground equipment I was scrambling over 40 years ago was.)

Starting to think I would enjoy rock climbing (at least the indoor stuff!).

I don’t think I have ever been so excited and energized by an artistic performance, but the incredibly unique fusion of disciplines in Noli Timere is something I know I will likely never witness again.
