I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for coming out to see Deerhoof last week and for making the first rock show in the Paramount such an amazing, memorable event. Every once in a while, you get a concert where the artist, the audience and the venue connect to make something greater than the sum of its parts and that certainly felt like the case the other night; the energy was incredible and Deerhoof responded with the best show I’ve seen them perform. If you haven’t already taken a look, check out Brooklyn Vegan’s great photo spread from the show and the Boston Globe’s glowing review; Globe music editor Michael Brodeur opens his write-up “If you’re wondering how the sound is at the restored Paramount Theatre: It’s amazing.” We couldn’t agree more!

Looking ahead, we’re excitedly preparing for concerts by two very different, though equally unique, artists. Thursday, November 4, marks the momentous New England debut of Syrian vocalist and cult phenomenon Omar Souleyman who will perform on Paramount’s appropriately regal main stage. Ever since his music was introduced to western audiences several years ago, fans of adventurous global sounds have waited breathlessly for a chance to see this exhilarating performer who counts Bjork and Pavement amongst his fans. On Thursday, December 16, we round out the year with an evening of intimate, hypnotic music that exists at the borderlands of rock, folk, and minimalism when we present S. Carey with opener White Hinterland in our black box theater. Many of you will recognize Sean Carey from his unique percussive contributions to indie favorites Bon Iver; others may have seen him recently, holding the audience at the Somerville Theater spellbound when he opened for Tallest Man on Earth. This might well be your last chance to catch him in a small venue, so don’t miss out!

In addition to joining us at these upcoming concerts, I’d encourage you to consider becoming a member of ArtsEmerson; members enjoy discounts on tickets, early notice about upcoming events and the knowledge that they’re supporting one of the most adventurous, forward-looking arts organizations in Boston.
