Hey, I know that circus troupe!

ArtsEmerson is excited to welcome back Boston favorites and iconic circus troupe, The 7 Fingers. In the past, the circus troupe has wowed the Boston community with performances that incorporate exhilarating acrobatic feats and stunts, along with emotional intimate acting. Co-artistic director David Dower explains why this innovative group is always welcome at ArtsEmerson, “The thing that is so deeply satisfying about 7 Fingers, for me, besides the fact that they are a blast to work with, is the way the company embodies the vision and values of ArtsEmerson. They are the world on stage. Each cast is drawn from different parts of the world. And they bring their cultural differences right onto the stage with them. Then, in those differences they forge an ensemble. It’s a powerful message for us in these fractious times.”

Recent appearances on the ArtsEmerson stage include showcases of their signature work, Traces, which the New York Times proclaimed as “Mad, Pulse-raising magic. Traces combined traditional acrobatic forms and street elements, mixing all of these variations with theatre and contemporary dance. The poetic and thoughtful nature of the show earned it multiple awards and a “Top Ten Everything of 2011″ rating from Time Magazine.

In Sequence 8, audiences witnessed incredible artistry, and awe-inspiring beauty as the troupe put on, as The Boston Globe reported, “A Hell of a show. The cast explored the courage and limitations of the human form through difficult tricks, graceful stunts and breathtaking antics. But what started this relationship between ArtsEmerson and The 7 Fingers was PSY—a breath taking performance that included explosive stunts and tricks, that was deemed to raise “the bar on what cirque nouveau can do – not just physically but emotionally” (The Boston Herald). PSY celebrated the beauty and power of our individual feelings and thoughts through the joy and excitement of the circus.
