ArtsEmerson Fellow Series: Sara, Dramaturgy and Outreach Fellow
ArtsEmerson’s fellows help keep every department and production running smoothly. As another class of fellows (typically a two-year position) prepares to leave, we asked them to tell us a little bit about their time working at Emerson College’s Office of the Arts, and ArtsEmerson in particular.
Which part of the job do you enjoy the most?
With the Ticket Access Program (TAP), I get offer free or reduced tickets to communities who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend theatre performances, and I love to hear their reactions to the work and how much they appreciate the opportunity. With Engage events, I get to involve our audience and community in discussions with each other and artists, or help them get the inside scoop with workshops or special guests. I also love working with all of the awesome Emerson student employees!
Who is one of the coolest people you’ve met during your time at ArtsEmerson?
I can’t pick one! I was all kinds of excited to meet legendary directors Anne Bogart when she came to direct Café Variations and Martha Clarke when I observed her Angel Reapers rehearsal. I was also impressed by Maurice Hines’ warmth and openness, the Manzari Brothers humility and insane talent, and Denis O’Hare’s performance and his keen insights and willingness to engage with his audience.
If you had to describe your position in three words, what would it be?
Dramaturgy and outreach! Just kidding. Engagement, enrichment, communications.
What project would you love to see happen at ArtsEmerson?
I’m a big fan of the National Theatre of Scotland, and have seen Black Watch three times. I would love for it to come to Boston, or another one of the company’s incredible works. I’ve heard that The Strange of Undoing of Prudencia Hart is also amazing.
What was your favorite show during your time here and why?
This is hard! We do such a wide range of work at ArtsEmerson, that question can be like comparing apples and oranges. So I’ll give my top three: Les 7 doigts de la main’s PSY, Blood Play by the Debate Society during The Next Thing Festival, and Denis O’Hare’s one-man An Iliad.
Which production are you most excited to come back and see next year?
Kiss & Cry! No question. Have you seen the video? It looks breathtaking. Here: watch.

What’s next?
In late July I’ll start my new role as the Manager of Outreach at the New Center for Arts and Culture. So I’ll be sticking around Boston and coming to see ArtsEmerson productions!
