ArtsEmerson’s 3 Day Sale is HERE

The ArtsEmerson 3 Day Sale comes once a year and the time has finally come! With $29 stage productions and $9 films, we’ve put together a road map of how to create the perfect cluster of events, as well as suggestions based on your favorites movies, books, and TV shows. From Antarctica to Roxbury and Franz Kafka to Octavia E. Butler, our 2020 productions will take audiences on a journey well beyond the stage.

Check out our pairings and suggestions below and let us know in the comments what show you’re most excited for! Don’t miss the sale before it’s over!

As technology continues to become a larger part of our lives, we think about films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Matrix, or Her. The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes (JAN 23-26) confronts the same question, asking “What is so artificial about intelligence, anyway?”

With historic stories like Spike Lee’s Malcolm X, Selma, and Common Ground by J. Anthony Lucas, we’re proud to bring forth another story from history with the world premiere of Detroit Red (FEB 01-16). Before he was Malcolm X, he was Roxbury’s Detroit Red.

If you enjoyed films like The Italian Job, Reservoir Dogs, or Sin City you’ll love Plata Quemada (MAR 11-15), a heart-pounding, true-life tale of bandits, betrayals and blowouts that explodes on stage in a multi-media tour-de-force experience detailing Argentina’s most famous heist.

Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower (MAR 26-29) dives into dystopia, climate change, and the fate of the human race. If you liked Black Panther, A Handmaid’s Tale, or Blade Runner you’ll love this contemporary operatic rendition of one of the most famous novels, Parable of the Sower.

Join us on an adventure of a lifetime, concurrent with the likes of Apollo 13, 127 Hours, and Ten Thousand Leagues Under the Sea with 69°S (The Shackleton Project) (APR 28-MAY 03) and go where few have gone before.

With Kafka at the helm and films like After Hours, Kubrik’s Eyes Wide Shut, or A Bug’s Life, take a journey to the nearly microscopic with Metamorphosis (MAY 13-17). See Kafka’s most famous nightmare take on gravity-defying aerials, in an awe-inspiring and surprisingly funny adaptation.

BOOKWORMS

For those of us who are literarily inclined, these are the productions based off of great literary works brought to life in a myriad of mediums. From contemporary opera to staged cinema, it’s your favorite stories like never before! If you’re a vivacious reader, check out Plata Quemada (MAR 11-15), Parable of the Sower (MAR 26-29), and Metamorphosis (MAY 13-17) all of which are devised from notable authors such as Octavia E. Butler or Franz Kafka.

WORLD ADVENTURER

ArtsEmerson is proud to present international theatre and this season is no exception. Want to travel the world without even grabbing your passport? Then join us for The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes (JAN 23-26) from Australia, Plata Quemada (MAR 11-15) from Chile, and Metamorphosis (MAY 13-17) from Iceland. And unlike most airlines, we promise there are no blackout dates during the sale.

EARTH ACTIVISTS

As our climate continues to change, we know now is the time to dive deep and come forward with voice, action, and community. Parable of the Sower (MAR 26-29) and 69°S (The Shackleton Project) (APR 28-MAY 03) both address our changing world and how we must come together in order to save our future, our planet, and our livelihood.

Remembers, tickets for all these shows are just $29, now through DEC 12! We can’t wait to see you at the theatre in 2020.
