Meet Plexus Polaire, The Troupe Behind Moby Dick!

ArtsEmerson is thrilled to be welcoming Plexus Polaire and their groundbreaking performance of Moby Dick to our stage on January 23, 2024! This show takes the classic tale of Captain Ahab and the Great White Whale and turns it anew with lager-than-life puppets, video projections, and a drowned orchestra.

Based in Norway, Plexus Polaire is no stranger to creating visual masterpieces — they have produced a number of shows including Dracula, A Doll’s House, and SignalsAt the heart of all of their shows are human-sized puppets, with the dual presence of actor-puppeteer, music, light and video contributing to the creation of an extended language to serve and communicate the story. The troupe has received awards and nominations, including Best Audiovisual Design for Moby Dick at the 2022 Hedda Awards.

Yngvild Aspeli, the artistic director of Plexus Polaire, draws inspiration from literary works and then works with her diverse team of 24 actors and puppeteers, 16 light, sound, and video experts, 6 musicians and composers, 10 costume designers and scenographers, 5 choreographers, and dozens of directors to translate the literary text into visual language. The troupe values incorporating a mix of different artistic forms, which is well represented in their productions – Moby Dick being no exception!

Moby Dick runs from January 23-28 at the Emerson Paramount Center Robert J. Orchard Stage! Tickets are nearly sold out, however, we recommend that you continue checking back as tickets may be in flux and seating may become available at a later time.

Please note that for all sold out performances, our Box Office will begin a Wait List at the Paramount Theatre starting 1 hour prior to curtain. You must be physically present at the Box Office to be added to the Wait List and when your name is called to purchase tickets.
