Step into the Bright Lights

This year, we are so proud to partner with the Bright Lights Film Series at Emerson College to bring you more of the best transformative art from around the world, streamed right into your living room. We’re striving to make ArtsEmerson.org a one-stop destination for presentations from many different partners and festival, which we’ll highlight here on the blog as well in the coming week.

The Bright Lights Film Series is presented by the Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College. The mission of the series is to create community through cinema and welcomes both Emerson faculty, students, and staff as well as the general public. Watch the fall season trailer above, and we know you’ll be jotting down several titles and dates to make sure you catch lots of this provocative work.

This Thursday, Bright Lights presents BEDLAM, a feature-length documentary that immerses us in the national crisis surrounding care of the severely mentally ill. Filmed over five years, it brings us inside one of America’s busiest psychiatric emergency rooms, into jails where psychiatric patients are warehoused, and to the homes – and homeless encampments – of mentally ill members of our communities, where silence and shame often compound personal suffering. Discussion with director Kenneth Rosenberg and producer Peter Miller to follow.

All Bright Lights presentations are free (!), but tickets only become available at 12PM ET on the day of the film screening.
