What’s Coming in 2024?

With the year quickly coming to a close, the team over at ArtsEmerson is simultaneously reminiscing on the shows that graced our stages in 2023 while anticipating the shows to come in the new year. From September-November 2023, ArtsEmerson welcomed shows from around the world, which included larger-than-life puppets, musical performances, and emotional one-performer productions. Take a look at the shows we have already had the privilege of welcoming, along with the shows that are coming up in 2024:

Little Amal (September 7)

Our 2023/2024 season began with the interactive journey of Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, who traveled across Boston as the kickoff of a North American tour. Tens of dozens of Bostonians greeted Amal as she walked across the city, followed by scores of musicians and performers.

We Are The Land (September 29-30, 2023)

This sold-out North American premiere gripped audiences as they were walked off the story of the Wampanoag nation through song, dance, and spoken word.

The Book of Life (October 18-22, 2023)

Inspired by a collection of letters from survivors of the Rwandan genocide, this performance – brought to life by Kiki Katese and Ingoma Nshya – explored how the healing power of expression and creativity can transform trauma to hope and peace.

The Real James Bond…Was Dominican (November 18-22)

Christopher Rivas enamored Boston audiences with this production, which was based on his own childhood. In this one-man performance, Rivas walked audiences through his own journey of self-discovery when, as a young child, Rivas discovered that his idol, James Bond, may be more connected to him than originally believed.

The exciting momentum is sure to continue in 2024, with the following performances set to take over the ArtsEmerson stages:

Moby Dick (January 23-28)

2024 will kickoff with the mesmerizing stage adaptation of Herman Melville’s iconic tale, made brand new by the celebrated Norwegian theater company, Plexus Polaire. With seven actors, fifty puppets, and a life-sized whale, this visually eye-popping production explores obsession and life’s mysteries in a groundbreaking, unforgettable way

Duel Reality (February 7-18)

The 7 Fingers will return to ArtsEmerson in February with their latest production, an acrobatic tour-de-force inspired by two unlikely sources: 1) the star-crossed classic tale of Romeo & Juliet and 2) competitive reality game shows. Duel Reality has been wowing audiences on Virgin Cruise Lines all summer long and is now ready to take the hit show on land.

Mrs. Krishnan’s Party  (March 27 – April 7)

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime performance, making its way to Boston by way of New Zealand in spring. This highly interactive performance is filled with music, dancing, and real food, making it an experience like no other.

Book of Mountains and Seas (April 19-21)

ArtsEmerson’s 23/24 season will end with this breathtaking chorus and theatrical performance brought to life by Huang Ruo and Basil Twist. Experience an ensemble of massive puppets and the chorus of Ars Nova Copenhagen to offer a story about the natural world and our vital, yet tenuous relationship to it.
