The 7 Fingers to Return in 2024!

ArtsEmerson is excited to welcome back the contemporary company The 7 Fingers to Boston for their U.S. premiere of DUEL REALITY, running from Feb 07-18 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre. The electrifying Montreal-based theatre troupe has a long history of dazzling Boston audiences, beginning with ArtsEmerson’s inaugural season in 2011. Before we welcome them back with Duel Reality, let’s take a look at some of the other exciting performances The 7 Fingers have brought to ArtsEmerson stages over the years:

1. PSY (2011)

The 7 Fingers kicked off their 10+ year relationship with ArtsEmerson with PSY, a transfixing circus spectacle which weaved together emotional maladies with amazing heart-stopping, death-defying physical skills. Through juggling, Chinese pole, German wheel, aerial rope, and teeterboard, PSY called attention to the power of the individual, finding moments of strength, courage, and joy while defying gravity.

2. Sequence 8 (2012)

Just a year following their incredible introduction during ArtsEmerson’s inaugural season, The 7 Fingers returned to Boston with Sequence 8, a performance which explores the role of the “other” and contemplates how we define ourselves through and against it through a series of awe-inspiring physical feats and graceful trapeze stunts. 

3. Traces (2014)

Choreographed by Gypsy Snider (Circus Creator for the Tony Award-winning revival of Pippin) and Shana Carroll (Off-Broadway’s Queen of the Night), Traces was a magical explosion that fused storytelling, music, and acrobatics. With pulse-pounding urgency, the Quebecois troupe explored their true selves, through the footprints they left behind.

4. Cuisine & Confessions (2016)

The 7 Fingers returned once again in the summer of 2016 with Cuisine & Confessions , a hit show that combined Fingers’ trademark acrobatic and choreographic prowess with interactive elements, including baking banana bread live on stage! Beyond circus thrills and laughs, Cuisine & Confessions incorporated sound, smell, touch, and taste, creating a literal theatrical feast. 

5. Reversible (2017)

In 2017, The 7 Fingers brought Reversible to the stages of ArtsEmerson. This U.S. premiere blended theater, illusion, dance, music, and acrobatics, shining a light on the poetry that is being human. 

6. Passengers (2019)

Speeding through the shifting landscapes of our lives, Passengers reminded audiences that as humans, we always have somewhere to go, even if we’re not sure where. This production engaged the imagination and pulled at heartstrings, taking Boston audiences on an unforgettable ride filled with tearful goodbyes and anticipatory reunions, all while building a community of strangers united in a moment of suspended limbo

7. Duel Reality (2024) 

The 7 Fingers returns once again for their U.S. premiere of Duel Reality, an acrobatic spectacular based on the tumultuous story of the Montagues and Capulets. This is a not-t0-be-missed show, filled with stunning physical stunts and allusions to the infamous story of Romeo and Juliet.
