A Note From Ronee Penoi on Duel Reality

If you are a longtime member of our community, you know what it means to attend a production of The 7 Fingers. Since ArtsEmerson’s very first season in 2010, the internationally renowned circus collective has graced our stages seven times over thirteen years. To have a partnership that spans well over a decade demonstrates a deep level of admiration and trust from our team and our audiences to what they bring. We are so delighted for you to experience their latest piece, Duel Reality. And if this is your first 7 Fingers experience, welcome to the party!

In Duel Reality, The 7 Fingers deliver a high energy take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, set as a competition between the Red team and Blue team. With immersive combat scenes and unrelenting passion, the stakes have never felt higher between these two famed families. However, what sets The 7 Fingers’s version apart is the intentionality of every movement, rooted in real emotion, feeling, and heart. This is a story at its core about the battle for love, and you can feel that emanating from the entire cast. Throughout the years, our teams at ArtsEmerson and The 7 Fingers have discussed at length how circus as an art form so clearly encapsulates our interdependence on one another. In circus and in life, we depend on one another to take a leap, to catch us when we fall, to survive. In a time when the world so clearly tries to divide us, here’s hoping we remember how much stronger we all are when we connect and come together.
