Previous Interactive ArtsEmerson Shows

Get ready for the best party you’ll attend in 2024: Mrs. Krishnan’s Party. Arriving to the Emerson Paramount Center on March 27, it is an exciting addition to our collection of interactive shows ArtsEmerson. Want to learn more about some of these other shows? Here is a list of past interactive shows we have featured throughout the past decade!

Geoff Sobelle’s Home (2017)

In this 2017 production, artist Geoff Sobelle worked to build a magic, large-scale home – right on stage. Home combined illusion, live music, home-spun engineering and an inventive use of audience interaction to compose an experience that asks, where is home? If it is not a place, what is home?

Tania El Khoury’s Gardens Speak (2017)

Lebanese artist Tania El Khoury took intimate groups of audience members (only 10 people admitted per hour!) through the oral histories of ten ordinary Syrians whose lives had been ended during the uprising against the Ba’athist government in 2011. During this theatrical experience, audiences were invited to lie in dirt representing garden graves in Syria while listening to the stories of the deceased.

Thaddeus Phillips & Steven Dufala’s Zoo-Motel (2021)

Taking place virtually over the pandemic, Phillips and Dufala brought audiences to a magical hotel room where time stopped, objects came to life, and stories emerged from across the globe. The show’s team sent guests room keys, an evacuation plan/map, a brochure, and branded stationery, via email before the show, making it a truly interactive experience despite the virtual circumstances.

L.M. Bogad’s Cointelshow: A Patriot Act (2023)

In 2023, Bogad presented a political satire called COINTELSHOW: A Patriot Act. Through an hour-long interactive virtual experience, the show unveiled redacted sections from heavily censored COINTELPRO documents within a haunting realm inhabited by its victims. Special Agent Christian White guided audiences while exploring the infamous COunterINTELligence PROgram of the FBI.

Indian Ink Theatre Company’s Mrs. Krishnan’s Party (2024)

ArtsEmerson latest interactive performance is Mrs. Krishnan’s Party, an exciting show from Indian Ink Theatre Company in New Zealand. In this production, audiences are invited to an over-the-top Onam celebration hosted by Mrs. Krishnan, complete with music, dancing, cooking and more.
