What is the Gaining Ground Fund?

In Old Age—which is play 8 of 9 in the historic Ufot Family Cycle—is the latest ArtsEmerson production to be funded, in part, by the Gaining Ground Fund. This fund was created in 2017 to support artists making work that reflects the African diasporic experience in America.

Through the Gaining Ground Fund, ArtsEmerson is able to provide vital resources that allow artists to keep control of both their vision and their process. Over the last decade, Gaining Ground has funded brilliant concerts, mesmerizing dance programs, and new theatrical experiences that offer much more than just entertainment. You’ll probably recognize many of the titles, including this season’s HANG TIME, as well as In the Same Tongue, Burgerz, Parable of the Sower, Detroit Red, The Magic Flute and The White Card. This fund has allowed ArtsEmerson to support extraordinary artists like Will Power, Claudia Rankine, Toshi Reagan, Diane McIntyre, and many more.
